Bird Problems In a Vent Ottawa, ON

Bird in Vent? What To Do?

Animals are amazing creatures and can be a lot of fun. We all love our pets. What we don’t like are pests and things that make our lives miserable. Birds are not seen by all as pests, they are indeed beautiful creatures. But when they are unwanted and when they begin causing you problems and disrupting your life, then they are seen as pests.

Birds are often seen flying into vents and living in vents during the summer months. If this happens and you see a bird fly into your vent or even a nest inside, then you should take the following steps to ensure that they are safe, and so are you.

Babies First - But Beware of the Bacteria Birds Carry!

First, see if there is a nest in the vent. If a bird goes inside, and there is no nest, then you will have to wait for it to come out. If the bird is flying inside because there is a nest then it is important to check to see if there is a nest and if there are babies, or eggs inside. If there are eggs, then you must leave it. If there are babies, then you must leave it.

Do not remove the nest or touch the nest before the babies are born, and have left the nest. The babies will leave between 11 and 15 days of being born. Check daily until the babies are gone and then remove the nest as soon as you can.

It is helpful to use a coat hanger to get the nest. When you do this make sure that you are wearing a mask over your mouth and nose as well as latex gloves so you can protect yourself against bacteria and disease. If you are using a ladder to get at your bird problems, it is important that you ensure your safety, as most vents birds gravitate towards are high up from the ground.

Once this is done, clear the inside of the vent of any other nesting materials. To do this, it is helpful to push a hose through the vent from the inside, until it reaches the outside of the vent and all the material is pushed out.

Lastly, clean around and the area of the vent and inside as much as you can by vacuuming where the nest was. Make sure you clean everything very well because the bacteria can be dangerous.

If all of this sounds very difficult, or you’re not comfortable getting near the bird problems, then please, leave this to the experts.
