There are many different things that you can use in the home that will be able to repel mice. Common Supplies
There are a few common supplies that can be used inside your home. One is peppermint oil. Mice do not like the scent of peppermint oil and that is why it can sometimes work as an effective repellent. Some people pour peppermint oil on cotton balls and then put the cotton balls in areas that are common for mice to enter the home and be around. It would be best to place them around doorways, vents, and small cracks.
Along with peppermint oil, some people also find that placing a peppermint plant in their home is a helpful way to act as mice repellent. This too should be placed around the entrance areas of the home. Another good resource to use is kitty litter, if you have it. This is something that mice are not drawn to and will not want to be around.
Another common proven technique is to mix liquid laundry detergent with Tabasco sauce and water. There are many of these quick homemade recipes found all throughout the internet. The simplest one is to just use about half a cup of liquid detergent, two tablespoons of Tabasco sauce, and a gallon of water. If you mix this together then spray it around a rodent hole or where you have seen the mice go in and out then this solution should be helpful.
Do They Work?
Most of these solution may work but there is no guarantee that they actually will do anything to rid you of the problem. They are helpful and better than doing nothing of course. Other plants that are good for planting and acting as mouse repellents are sage plants. Sage and peppermint are both widely known for being quite effective in keeping the mice away! Although these may be effective homemade repellents, they are not guaranteed and it is much more efficient to bring in a professional exterminator.
